JEN AND JUSTIN SECRETLY MARRIED! KHLOE AND KOURTNEY DOUBLE WEDDING! CHRIS HEMSWORTH SEXIEST MAN ALIVE!
Pardon the all caps but I’ve a confession to make. I love reading tabloids; the trashier the better. Yes, I know there’s more truth in a McDonald’s advertisement than what’s reported between those covers, but I can’t help it. As embarrassing as it is to admit, the lives of celebrities and the famous-for-being-famous make for a more compelling read than say, Obama’s immigration policies.
But the thrill we get from looking over people’s shoulders, from peeking into a private life we aren’t privy to, is what makes tabloids (despite their lack of journalistic value) so darned addictive. And similarly, it’s this sense of voyeurism that makes a trip to Miniatures Museum of Taiwan so much fun.
Unlike reality TV, where nothing really is real, or tabloids, where the truth has been warped beyond recognition, at Miniatures Museum of Taiwan, reality is whatever you say it is. There’s something deliciously naughty about peering through the roomboxes and dollhouses, furnished with the daily trappings of life yet curiously devoid of any occupants. With a voyeuristic thrill you’re glimpsing into their closets, browsing through their subscriptions, admiring their kitchens; all the while not knowing when they might make a sudden reappearance.
You’re left to imagine what comes next.
Goddammit, he thought as he kicked the pile of newspapers roughly aside. Chugging down his whisky, he pondered the Caravaggio in front of him. That bitch won’t rest until she gets her hands on every single f****** thing I own.
“Baby, you home?”, a voice upstairs calls out. She tosses her Chanel coat on the couch, unpins her hair and with a final glance into the mirror proceeds to head upstairs, where a hot bath and back rub (courtesy of the 23 year old male model she picked up last Friday) awaits.
Voyeurism is taken to a whole new level when you’re left to supply the context of what you’re watching.
What did you imagine from the scenes above? Please share, I’d love to hear your stories!
